Dreaming Big – Dungeon Prompt

Having been in a wheelchair for the last six years has hindered my movement somewhat, due to reliance on others for transportation.  Don’t get me wrong – I do get to travel once a year – along with my veterans wheelchair teammates.  I have been to Omaha, NE (pretty city), Spokane, WA, Denver, CO, Pittsburgh, PA, Richmond, VA and Tampa, FL, since being confined to a wheelchair.  These trips are a week along, and consist of wheelchair veterans competing in close to 20 different sporting events ranging from basketball, obstacle courses, and table tennis.

Dreaming Big

My dream is to have the freedom to go to the one place I’ve never been to and always wanted to go to: the Grand Canyon.  This would be quite an achievement if I could do this.  I have a fear of heights and the thought of being at the edge of this magnificent sight sends chills up and down my spine.

I don’t want to just look out (maybe down) at it, but go down into this magnificent canyon, taking pictures all along the way.  To leave the wheelchair behind, and travel on the back of a donkey, is something I still can do, for now, but someday will not be able to do.

My obstacles that would have to be overcome are 1) dependence on a wheelchair, and 2) the funds to be able to travel to the canyon, as I live in Wisconsin, and would have a good distance to travel.  This is the one thing I want to do, more than any other, before I am unable to entirely.

  1. I actually did that when I was a kid. My family took a driving trip to the Grand Canyon and went horse back down the side of the canyon. Was unbelievable. I hope that you are able to make it happen
